The ship to the left was the USS Conflict, Navy Minesweeper Ocean going. I served aboard this ship some 40 plus years ago. We sailed on this ship from California to Vietnam and back. Wow - what a trip that was.
I sometimes feel that my journey really began back on this ship in Vietnam in 1967. I was a young man with a dream. Sailing aboard a Navy ship with a crew of about 67 gave me a whole new outlook on what family can really be. You see I was born in Canada, migrated to the USA in 1962, and had joined the US Navy when most were trying to avoid the draft.
